Lighthouse Child Advocacy Center “No Shave for the Brave”

By Staff | Jan 13, 2022

“No Shave for the Brave” had its most successful year to date. During the month of November, law enforcement officers and CAC supporters grew out their beards to raise money and awareness for The Lighthouse Child Advocacy Center. This year there were 8 participants, who raised a record high donation amount of $1,240.

“All of the money we raise goes towards the Child Advocacy Center’s mission of providing hope and healing to child survivors of abuse in Wetzel and Tyler Counties. We are so grateful for the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Department, friends of the CAC, and all the community support” said Susan Scharf, Executive Director of the Lighthouse CAC.

Leading the group in donations and winner of “2021 Best Challenger” is Deputy Eric Daugherty. Deputy Daugherty raised an impressive donation total of $715. As the PRO at New Martinsville School, Deputy Daugherty had the support of teachers and school staff to help him surpass his goal of $500 in donations for the CAC. When asked why he wanted to help raise money for the CAC, Dep. Daugherty said, “I know the CAC is grant funded and there are expenses and needs that aren’t covered by that money. I have worked with the CAC for many years and appreciate their services.” Deputy Daugherty also challenged other law enforcement officers to raise more money next year so that it can be even more successful.

The award of “2021 Best Beard” is chosen by people’s choice votes. All eight participants’ photos were posted to Facebook for the public to choose who they believe has the best beard. The winner of the “2021 Best Beard” is Deputy CJ Vega. This was the first time Deputy Vega had participated in No Shave for the Brave.

The Lighthouse CAC would like to thank Wetzel County Sheriff, Mike Koontz and the participants of No Shave for the Brave for making 2021 the most successful year for our annual fundraiser. Also, a huge thank you to the New Martinsville School staff and everyone who donated towards a beard grower’s challenge.
