National Champion To Race at Regattafest
After his recent victory during the APBA National OPC (Outboard Performance Craft) Championships in Springfield, Ohio, R. J. West of Los Angeles, California, he is headed to New Martinsville, West Virginia, to compete during the tenth annual RegattaFest, Sept. 25 and 26.
A fierce competitor Formula 200 class, West has dominated the field all year and currently leads High Points chase in the American Power Boat Association’s tunnel boat category. Terry Rinker, Tampa, Florida, Jeff Reno of Okeechobee, Florida, and Mike Quindazzi from Phoenix, Arizona, are the top drivers expected to challenge West.
The race will be a 30-lap event for the Eastern Divisional Championship and the Wetzel County Commission trophy.
In addition to the big and powerful Formula 200s, RegattaFest will host the Formula 3 (SST 60) and Formula 4 (SST45) classes. The 2021 Formula 3 Champion, Toby Hood, McConnelstown, Pennsylvania, announced his intention to participate and defend his New Martinsville title.
Also, for the first time in thirty years, the Formula 4 (SST45) class will return to the racecourse in New Martinsville with a full contingent of boats.
Racing action starts at 10 am on Saturday morning with mandatory testing sessions for all classes, followed by an entire afternoon of sanctioned APBA racing and preliminary championship heats from noon to 4 pm. Sunday, testing begins at 11 am, with the Championship finals slated to start at 1 pm.
