Commission Makes Pledge to Sewer Project
The Wetzel County Commissioners met Tuesday June 22, 2021 at the County Commission office to hear agenda items. All commissioners were present. Commission President Lisa Heasley led in the Pledge of Allegiance and then called the meeting to order.
Mike Hess, ABM of WV Guaranteed Energy Legislation was present to see if he and his company could be of any service to the County. He explained that this company goes into the County owned buildings and figures out if we are paying too much in energy costs and how they can save us money. The commissioners listened to his speech but made no deciscion to follow-up with Hess.
Rosemary Guida, Workforce Development Board Representative updated the Commission on services they provide. Commissioner’s accepted the re-appointment of Tina Rush to their board of directors to represent the Private Business Sector of Wetzel County. The Commissioners also accepted the appointment of Dr. Phil Klein to the board to replace Debbie Bennet as the Higher Education sector of Wetzel County.
Paden City Mayor Sreve Kastigar along with city clerk Diane Wright and a representative from Thrasher engineering group appeared before the commission with a request for funds to help with the city’s sewer project. This is a proposed $2.45 million project with grant funding coming from the US Army Corps $1,500,000 and WV Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council ($500,000). Kastigar explainded the town will be using their American Rescue Plan money for the project and are asking for the remainding portion of $300,000 to be split between Wetzel and Tyler County with each county using a portion of their ARP funds.
The Wetzel County Commission agreed to the request and made a pledge of $150,000 to be set aside for the Paden City project.
