Following nearly four an a half hours of executive sessions conducting interviews and discussing qualifications of candidates, the Wetzel County Board of Education on Saturday April 10, 2021 announced Tammy Wells as the new Superintendent of Wetzel County Schools.

The Board of Education held a Special Meeting at 1 p.m. on Saturday for the purpose of conducting interviews and possibly selecting a new Superintendent. BOE President Brian Price called the meeting to order after member Jay Yeager led the Pledge of Allegiance and member Linda Fonner delivered the invocation.

Yeager made the motion to continue in Executive Session to conduct the interviews and it was seconded by Amy Cooley.

The board returned at 5:28 and Price announced they had finished conducting the interviews. Yeager at 5:29 p.m., again made a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss qualifications and possible selection. Again, Cooley seconded the motion and it was approved.

When the board returned from Executive Session, Yeager made a motion to select Tammy Wells, current Director of Secondary and Vocational Education, Student Assessment and Strategic Planning as the new Wetzel County Superintendent replacing current Superintendent Ed Toman, who’s contract was not renewed by the board.

The motion was seconded by Cooley and approved by a unanimous vote from the board. It was announced Wells will begin her duties of the position on July 1, 2021.

She was given a two-year contract with a salary of $130,000 a year plus benefits.
