Fire Damages House in Paden City

Firefighters in the area received a call around 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 that a house on Stephen’s Street had heavy smoke coming from the roof.

Within minutes of receiving the call Paden City and New Martinsville fire trucks arrived to find fire and smoke in the attic of the home at 203 Stephen Street.

The home is directly behind Paden City high school which caused the school to be evacuated because of smoke entering the school. The owners of the house said it suffered heavy smoke, fire and water damage and are uncertain if it will be declared a total loss.

The fire is believed to have started in the third floor attic and the cause is unknown but believed to be electrical.

Occupants of the home loss much of there belongings and a fund has been set up at Peoples Bank in New Martinsville to help them recover.

The fire was brought under control quickly by the fire departments who stayed around to make sure all hotspots were quelled. No injuries were reported
