Regattafest Announces Thunder Fireworks Display

By Staff | Sep 23, 2020

Mark your calendars and set your timers for Saturday, September 26th, 2020, at 8:00 pm, to enjoy a free fireworks display presented by RegattaFest with special music provided by our local radio stations: WETZ AM and FM (1330 AM and 93.1 FM) as well as 104.5 FM. It’s a drive-in celebration, and guidelines must be followed; but there is plenty of parking throughout the downtown area, and the display will be visible from many locations, maybe your porch or yard.

Every RegattaFest Board of Directors member regretted the necessity to cancel the 2020 edition of RegattaFest. It was to have been the ninth annual celebration, the running of the North American Championship tunnel boat races, and the traditional land-based schedule of activities designed for free family fun.

“We felt the disappointment throughout the community, we knew the disappointment first-hand A special board meeting was held, and options on how to bring some “Free Family Fun” to the Ohio River Valley were discussed. All current COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions had to be followed, budget considerations had to be followed, and we had to find a safe but effective method of celebrating. The answer was RegattaFest Thunder, a fireworks display that could be viewed from several locations throughout the city,” explained the Board.

Using the parking plan developed by the New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Department for their drive-in movie night, there will be prime viewing areas behind the West Virginia Northern Community College. The display can also be seen from the city parking lots, Main Street, and other locations throughout town. Volunteers will be available in the grassy lot adjacent to Harlan Drive (near the City Building) to assist in parking, keeping sufficient distance to allow for traffic flow, and enough space between vehicles to permit excellent viewing. Please remember to follow the guidelines: be respectful, stay with your vehicle, and if you exit your vehicle, wear a mask, as well as maintaining correct social distancing. Please, do not gather in groups since this is not permitted. Tune your radios to WETZ 1330 AM, 93.1 FM, or 104.5 FM for the music, then sit back and enjoy RegattaFest Thunder.

Mark your calendars and make plans for RegattaFest Thunder FREE-FAMILY-FUN in downtown New Martinsville, September 26th starting at 8 pm. RegattaFest –a tradition of excellence combined with the spirit of innovation, and in celebration of our community. It’s the formula that guarantees a good time for everyone.
