NM Car Chase results In Arrests and Injuries
On Sunday morning around 10:30 a.m. New Martinsville Police officer Courtney South was in chase of a Black GMC Arcadia license number WV M3OW fitting the description of a vehicle stolen from Middlebourne the night before. As they approched the intersection of St. Rt. 2 and Russell Avenue, the driver of the Arcadia collided with three other vehicles, losing a rear wheel and causing it to come to a halt along the state road property near the red light across from Wal-Mart.
The other three vehicles were disabled on Rt. 2. in front of Walgreens. Four people were in the GMC when officer South approached it. She managed to get what appeared to be the driver in handcuffs while two other passengers were also detained. One male subject fled the scene on foot and headed into a wooded area east of the accident. Backup arrived and the other two detained individuals were taken into custody.
The one male who was initially handcuffed was taken by ambulance to the local hospital for treatment. Local authorities arriving on the scene included the West Virginia State Police, New Martinsville Police Department, Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office, New Martinsville Fire Department and the Ambulance Service.
