Rice Ranked Number One At Magnolia
Joshua Rice is a senior at Magnolia High School Class of 2020. He is the son of Jim and Lisa Rice of New Martinsville. Josh is ranked number one in his class and has a cumulative GPA of 4.38. He was class President for two years. He is President of the National Honor Society and President of Mu Alpha Theta National Math Honor Society. He is a two time State Math Field Day winner and also placed First in the County Math Field Day every year throughout his school career. He is also President of the PC Gaming Club. He is a member of the Science National Honor Society and Student Government.
Josh played Football, Cross Country, and Track. He has volunteered for Rise Against Hunger, Relay for Life, Kids Kollege, Rang the bell for the Salvation Army and was chosen to attend RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award).
Josh, like all juniors across the nation, took the PSAT. He scored in the top 1% in the nation and became a National Merit Scholar. This honor has opened the door for many scholarships. He has been awarded the University National Merit Scholarship worth $41,000, the EQT Scholarship worth $72,000, the Valedictorian Scholarship through WVU, the National Merit Scholarship through the National Merit program, the Engineering Excellence Scholarship, the Scholarship of Distinction, the Promise Scholarship, the Jim Quinet Memorial Scholarship, and the Bennett Scholarship. The scholarships that he has been awarded total more than $135,000. If there are any excess of scholarships funds that Josh does not need to cover his expenses WVU will retract some of their awards and disburse to other qualifying students.
Josh plans to attend West Virginia University in the fall and double major in Computer Engineering and Computer Science.
