Two Tad Fitzsimmons Memorial Scholarship Winners Announced
Two Wetzel County seniors have been awarded a $1,000 Tad Fitzsimmons Memorial Scholarship for 2020.
This year’s recipients are Destiny Harrison from Paden City High School and Lara Smith, a graduate of Magnolia High School.
Destiny is the daughter of Natasha Harrison. She will attend Fairmont State University this fall and major in Elementary Education. She has maintained a 3.8 GPA while attending Paden City High School. She participated in track and was in the band and All County Choir. Destiny was a member of the CATS Club and Student Council and was Vice President. She also volunteered for many activities in the community.
While attending Magnolia High School, Lara maintained a 3.8 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, and A Cause 4 Paws Club. She played basketball and was on the OVAC All-Academic Team. She also participated in track and tennis. Lara has volunteered for many activities in her community. Lara will attend Bethany College this fall and major in International Business, Communications and Media Arts. She is the daughter of Brian and D’Ann Smith.
The scholarships are funded from proceeds of the previous Tad Fitzsimmons 5K Runs/Walks that were held for eight years in Tad’s honor and the generous donations from businesses and friends.
