Memorial Day Services Held Throughout The Area
Monday turned out to be the perfect day to gather at the local cemetaries an honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the freedoms that we share today in this great country. While we have been battling a war here on the homefront against the coronavirus, we still have soldiers fighting and protecting for us on foriegn soils, and putting their lives on the line daily. We pay them the respect they deserve, while we remember with broken heart those who paid the price and never returned home to their loved ones and families.
With memorial services being held throughout the country, right here it our immediate area we gathered together in different locations to thank those who bravely gave their lives so future generations can continue to live in freedom in a land that so many enjoy. God Bless every military person past and present and may God continue to bless us as a nation.
Greenlawn cemetary was the scene of Mondays Memorial Day Service in New Martinsville. A large crowd showed to watch as American Legion Post 28 provided the gun salute and playing of Taps. The cemetary was decorated with bright flowers and all veteran graves had flags posted to their resting places.
Following a speech by Post 28 Commander Matt Bland commemorating the service of all veterans, the Memorial then moved to the Wall of Honor on Main Street next to the American Legion . There another gun salute was given as a tribute to those on the Wall of Honor.
