Wetzel BOE Holds Meeting Via ZOOM, Broadcast Live on Youtube

By Staff | Apr 8, 2020

Superintendant of Wetzel County Schools Ed Toman and the Board members met March 30, via ZOOM, and the meeting was broadcast for the public on YouTube Live. Toman and all the Board members provided positive comments and praised all the professional and service employees in their efforts for providing meals and taking care of the academic needs for all the students of Wetzel County.

Toman said he remains in constant contact with the State Superintendent and other state professionals during the coronavirus shutdown, in regards to the educational and emotional needs and support for our students. He, in turn, provides all the information to the board members, county directors and principals to keep everyone informed and up to date as changes occur.

Assistant Superintendant Darren Cook shared a power point discussion regarding the 2020-2021 school calendar, which included the calendar requirements and the two options being considered. He explained that the main difference between the two calendars is the start date. Cook mentioned that all employees were provided the opportunity to vote between the two, and the vast majority voted for Option 1, which has a start date later in August, after Town & County Days. In addition to the calendar, all employees were given the opportunity to vote on the continued use of the Non-Traditional Instructional Time (snow packets). The majority voted in favor of continuing them. A second public hearing concerning the 2020-2021 school calendar will be presented at the next regular Board meeting.

Mr. Cook requested that Mr. McPherson forward him any public comments or questions that were made on the YouTube Live feed.
