Making it to the to of Mount Evans on their bike journey are L-R Eva Starkey, Rob Morris, and Larry Starkey.

An intrepid band of Wetzel Countians left the “Country Roads” of West Virginia for the “Rocky Mountain High” of Colorado to attempt and complete one of our iconic bicycle rides. Eva Starkey, Larry Starkey, Rob Morris and Art Burnside with the support of Marcia Morris and Jackie Lemasters rode their bicycles to the top of the highest paved road in North America and 5th highest in the world, Mount Evans. Topping out at 14,271′(by contrast Wetzel County’s highest point, unpaved, is Honsocker Knob at 1650′), Evans is on the bucket list of serious cyclists. Following their impressive achievement, the group reconnoitered in nearby Boulder, Colorado to rest and celebrate.
