Former NM Resident To Perform At Museum

The Wetzel County Museum is hosting Sean Maxwell on August 2nd at 2pm for presentation on early music and why its still important today. Mr. Maxwell is originally from New Martinsville and currently lives in Austria where he is an organist at the Baumgartenberg Monastery and in the orchestra of the St. Cecilia Sacred Music Guild.

He specializes in early music, particularly from the late Renaissance and early baroque period. He works with historic instruments from Austria, Germany and England.

The presentation will demonstrate the scholarly and artistic process of preparing a piece of early music for performance, an explanation of early instruments and how they have developed and changed over the years. Mr. Maxwell has also prepared a fun examination of some works by Johann Sebastian Bach on a level that everyone can participate. There will be several great recordings and video footage from Austria and England that is sure to make for an interesting afternoon.

The Wetzel County Museum is located on Main Street in New Martinsville across from West Virginia Northern Community College open daily Monday-Saturday 10-4.
