Chamber Of Commerce Holds Community Awards

Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce First Responder of the Year Award Winner Cris Jenkins.

The Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce held it annual awards banquet on May 14, at the Mollahan Center. Each year the Chamber honors and recognizes individuals and organizations for their contributions to the area. On Wednesday night nine different categories were honored with a special new categorie of First Responder being added for the first time.

The Chamber operates with the motto “Citizens Working Together for Better Communities.” The 2019 Community Awards began with a social gathering at 5:30, followed by President Don Riggenbach’s welcome speech, at 6 p.m.. Eric Vicent,Treasurer, gave the Invocation while also acting as Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Ed Toman, Superendentent of Wetzel County Schools delivered a brief presentation of Vocational Training in the County.

The Banquet was catering by B & B Buffet, LLC & Catering and entertainment was provided the music of Ezra Hamilton. While enjoying the delicious meal the Chamber used the time to also recognize the awards nominees and annnouce the winn ers in each categorie.

The 2019 Nominees included Business Owner of the Year; Nikki Goddard winner, Citizen of the Year; Jane Ann Gamble winner, Civic Organization of the Year; Wetzel County Hope and Memories winner, Educator of the Year; Lisa Feldmeier winner, Employee of the Year; Coty Postlewait winner, Entrepreneur of the Year; Thomas Ian Jackson winner, First Responder of the year; Cris Jenkins winner, Professional of the Year; Dr. James Campbell winner, and Youth of the year; Kennedy Parsons winner.

Parsons was also the recipient of the $500 Scholarship from the New Martinsville Lions Club.

Following the dinner and awards presentation door prizes and table top decorations were presented to those with winning tickets.
