Shortline Ramp Festival Is Saturday
The fragrance of ramps will fill the air in Pine Grove on April 20 as folks near and far will celebrate the 5th Annual Shortline Ramp Festival. Festivities begin at 9 a.m. with a 5K Run/Walk. Registration for such will be held at 8 a.m. at the Robert C. Byrd Center.
Following the 5K, the event will officially take off with the raising of the flag and the National Anthem at 10 a.m. Parents are encouraged to then sign their kids up for the Kids Box Car Race, which will take place at 10:30 a.m.
If box car racing doesn’t strike one’s fancy, a Ramp Taste Off is also set for 10 a.m.. Activities scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.include Children’s Games (and prizes!), Indoor Crafters/Vendors, and a chance to meet local racecar drivers Travis Brown, Scott Irvin, and Sonny Conley.
For a toe-tappin’ good time, folks can also experience Live Bluegrass Music from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A new activity to the Fifth Annual Shortline Ramp Festival is Chicken Poop Bingo, which can be played from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Those who find themselves pining for some ramps – after all, this is a ramp festival! – can partake of a Ramp Dinner, set between the hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will also serve as a Shortline FFA Alumni Fundraiser.
If one’s taste buds are still yearning for some ramps – and perhaps a new recipe that involves such – a Ramp Tasting Contest is scheduled for noon.
The Little Miss/Mr. Ramp Personality Contest is scheduled for 1 p.m., along with a horseshoe tournament.
The day’s activities will conclude at 2:30 p.m. with an Awards Presentation.
