Ham and Bacon Show Yields $65,071.25
The 51st Annual 4-H/FFA Ham and Bacon Shows, held Friday, raised $65,071.25. Auction services were provided by Ron Morrison. This was the 22nd year he has provided auction services at the Wetzel County 4-H/FFA Ham and Bacon Show.
The event, held at the Wetzel County 4-H Grounds Mollohan Center featured ham, bacon, and eggs raised by Wetzel County students.
The Grand Champion Ham was exhibited by Ashley Phillips. Weighing 24 pounds, it sold to Eric Yost Excavating for $100 a pound, or $2,400.
The Grand Champion Bacon, weighing 6.5 pounds, was exhibited by Bailie Fayad. It sold for $500 per pound, or $3,250, to Wetzel County Assessor Scott Lemley.
The Grand Champion Eggs were exhibited by Ava Tuttle. They sold for $1,150, to Wetzel County Assessor Scott Lemley.
The Reserve Champion Ham was exhibited by Lydia Adams. The 20.75-pound ham sold for $75 per pound, for a total of $1518.75. The ham was bought by Union Bank.
The Reserve Champion Bacon was exhibited by Josh Arrick. The bacon weighed 7.25 pounds and was sold for $125 per pound, for a total of $906.25. The bacon was sold to Jarvis Williams Funeral Home.
The Reserve Champion Eggs were sold to Litman Excavating for $825 They were exhibited by Autumn Smith.
The Scholarship Ham was donated by the Morris Family. It sold for $4,000 to the Wileyville Fire Department.
The Scholarship Bacon, donated by the Morris Family, was sold for $1,000 to Henderson Farms.
The Bob Coen Memorial scholarship jacket was donated by the Pine Grove FFA Alumni. Two scholarship jackets were sold for $1,000 a piece to Litman Excavating and Country Roads Ford.
