Man Arrested In Connection With Stolen Vehicle Call
According to New Martinsville Police Department, NMPD officers responded to a call regarding a stolen Jeep from the 7-11 parking lot on Monday morning.
According to the statement from the NMPD, Dispatcher Dave Byers received the call concerning the stolen vehicle, and it had been noted the suspect was seen driving west on North Street.
Dispatcher Byers radioed Sergeant Friend Estep and Patrolman Jason Utt, who noticed the vehicle heading east on North Street.
According to NMPD, Patrolman Utt made a traffic stop at Route 2 and North Street and took the suspect into custody.
Jason Earl Smith, 47, was booked at 4 a.m. at Northern Regional Jail on charges of joyriding and driving revoked for DUI.
NMPD praised Utt for his “diligent work on this case.”
