Chief Cecil Sheds Light On Area Break-Ins
New Martinsville Police Chief Tim Cecil was able to shed some light on reports of recent area home invasions in New Martinsville.
Chief Cecil said four home invasions were reported in the early hours of Tuesday, Oct. 30. Meanwhile, there was one reported break-in early Wednesday, Oct. 31. He said there was also a complaint filed in each Tyler County, W.Va. and Monroe County, Ohio.
Chief Cecil noted businesses have also been targeted. He specifically mentioned Joe’s Tire in New Martinsville, Wetzel County.
Chief Cecil said there is no suspect identified yet, but the investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement is searching for a white male with a height of 6’1″ or 6’2.” He said the suspect has stolen $10 from one home, and another individual reported $200 missing.
The chief confirmed that one New Martinsville woman did fire a gun, in order to scare the suspect away.
Chief Cecil said law enforcement is urging residents to keep their doors locked and report suspicious activity to law enforcement. He asked that residents not leave their purses or other valuable belongings setting where others can see through the windows.
