In July 2017, young Huckleberry “Huck” Henderson’s simple act of kindness made a lasting impression on some strangers – riders of the Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. On July 15, 2018, Henderson reunited with some of those riders, now forever friends.

“Sometimes in life we cross paths with the most unexpected people and never think that we will meet them again…This is one of those amazing journeys,” Belinda Henderson, Huck’s mom posted to Facebook July 15.

In mid-July 2017, Huck first came across the Punishers, who were on their way home from the Punishers National summer rally, where they participated in the Ride for Fallen Officers in Canal Winchester. The group was traveling Ohio 536 South, headed toward Hannibal when rider Justin DeTota low-sided his bike and slid across a corner into the grass.

The riders ended up at Walmart in New Martinsville. Huck and Belinda, in their car at the time, spotted the riders. Huck was very concerned about the cuts and scrapes on DeTota’s arms and ended up leaving a note for the hurt rider, along with some bandaids and an Olive Garden gift card.

Huck and the riders did meet that evening. The Hendersons had waited in their vehicle for the riders, who were pleasantly surprised by the act of kindness from the young boy. After conversation, the Hendersons and the riders headed their separate ways. However, neither party could forget one another.

Punishers rider Chris Robinson had posted to Facebook and expressed young Huck’s act of kindness; he asked his post be shared to “make it go viral.”

Little did Robinson know, Belinda had also posted to Facebook, writing how people are quick to judge one another. She had written how a group of riders had “pulled up and parked beside us with Punisher vests on and gear.” Huck, instead, noticed DeTota – who had a cut on his arm. Belinda had explained how Huck requested the Hendersons leave the gentleman with some bandaids and wait for the riders to exit Walmart.

“When they walked up to the bikes, they were smiling ear to ear, not one frown or cussing because somebody had been near their bikes… They had no clue we had waited,” Belinda had described.

Rider Benton Ketron had messaged the Wetzel Chronicle Facebook page and asked that the paper share Robinson’s Facebook post.

“We are trying to track down a little boy and his family to get in contact with them for his spectacular deed and compassion. We are trying to get this young man some recognition and reward him,” he had said.

Obviously, the Hendersons and Punishers were reunited. The rest, as they say, is history.

A year later, Belinda describes: “From that small act, an incredible friendship grew. Thank you so much for making Huck feel so important.” Belinda shared several photos of Huck and DeTota, along with fellow rider Melissa Morris.

“Thank you so much for making Huck feel so important!” Belinda wrote of the Punishers. “These are an amazing group of men and women!”
