Members of the Upper Ohio Valley Conservation District, along with friends and family, gathered at the senior center in Hundred on Monday, July 9, to honor one of their longtime supervisors as he ends his tenure.
Carroll Cumberledge, district supervisor for the past 35 years, has put in decades of work.
“I have put in 35 years of dedicated service. I will still be around though as an associate supervisor and will help help if needed. It’s been a long segment of my life, and I have enjoyed the ride. I believe we’ve been successful and am happy to see those who have come out to join in the celebration with me,” said Cumberledge.
Besides the time spent at his work, Carroll is also and avid antique car enthusiast. On Monday he drove his 1967 Cadillac convertible, the last of the convertibles the company made. He said of the nine antique cars he owns, the Cadillac is his favorite. At the ripe young age of 77, Cumberledge will now have more time to work on his farm and enjoy his hobby, while spending valuable time with his wife Judy and family.
In attendance on Monday for Carroll’s retirement were several members of the conservation district, including some from other areas. Cumberledge’s brother Dale and wife Norma Jean and his daughter Paula were also present. Delegate David Pethtel, a Hundred resident, also came out to support Cumberledge and offer his congratulations.
It was a good day and refreshments were served. A large cake with the inscription “You will be Missed” was enjoyed by all. Cumberledge seemed excited to have been with the conservation district for so many years but was also relieved that he will now be able to enjoy some other facets of his life. He is wished well on his retirement.
