By Staff | Jul 2, 2018

The New Martinsville Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a male suspect who was possibly involved in a Monday morning stabbing in New Martinsville.

According to an official release from the department, officers were dispatched July 2, 9:03 a.m. to a reported stabbing near McEldowney Avenue in New Martinsville. Law enforcement said they were met by a female victim, whose name is not being released at this time. The victim allegedly suffered a stab wound to her leg during an altercation with an armed suspect. She was then transported to the hospital where she was treated and released.

According to law enforcement, the suspect attempted to rob the victim of her money and cellphone; the victim was able to “fight off the suspect and get to safety, and the suspect fled the scene on foot.”

According to NMPD, the case is currently under investigation, and officers are currently following leads.

The male suspect is approximately 5 feet and 10 inches tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a t-shirt with black vertical stripes, blue and tan plaid shorts, and low cut tan work boots. The male suspect is described as having dark hair with some gray mixed in. His hair was described as being messy and “between short and medium length.”

The description states the suspect had a “thin chinstrap-style beard along the jawline with a full goatee,” measuring approximately one to two inches from the chin. The color of the facial hair is described as being lighter than hair on the suspect’s head. He also could be sporting an eyebrow ring on his left eyebrow.

The public is asked not to approach anyone matching the suspect’s description and to, instead, call the NMPD at 304-455-9100 if they spot the suspect or with any information pertaining to the suspect.

The NMPD also reminds the public that all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
