Wetzel County Sheriff Mike Koontz has reported that Joseph Harrison, 47, has been arrested in connection with a Jan. 9 shooting in Reader.

Harrison was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Harrison was shot during the Jan. 9 incident, but the sheriff said law enforcement believes that Harrison was shot in self-defense. The name of the person who shot Harrison is not being released, as the incident is still under investigation.

Harrison is in Northern Regional Jail on $80,000 bond.

The shooting was first reported to the sheriff’s office at around 11 a.m. on Jan. 9. On Jan. 9 Koontz had reported that the incident was an isolated one, and the public was not in any danger. Koontz had also reported that the person shot — now identified as Harrison — had been taken to a hospital in Morgantown.
