During the regularly scheduled Wetzel County Commission meeting on Jan. 2, the commission voted for Commissioner Lisa Heasley to serve as the commission’s vice president for 2018. Heasley previously acted as commissioner, while Commissioner Bob Gorby served as vice president. The two have switched roles for the 2018 year, while Larry Lemon has retained his seat as president of the commission.
Heasley was elected to her Wetzel County Commission seat in 2016.
In other news, Heasley informed the commission that The State Work Force, West Virginia office, had been awarded a flood disaster relief grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. This grant was awarded in response to the July 2017 storms that affected 12 counties. Heasley did not know the amount of the grant at this time, but was aware that the grant would be distributed by the State Work Force, West Virginia office.
In other matters, a New Martinsville resident approached the commission regarding the possibility of the commission funding a new police cruiser for the City of New Martinsville. No representatives of the city attended the meeting, preventing the commission from taking any action.
