A Paden City couple noticed this past autumn that the large American flag that had flown in front of Paden City High School from, time to time, was no longer there. At about the same time, two of the couple’s very dear friends – both of whom were veterans – passed away. The couple thought that flying a large flag again would be an appropriate way to remember those two gentlemen, and to honor all veterans as well.

The couple purchased the flag and donated it to the school in memory of Gary L. Cochran and Charles E. Virden, who were proud graduates of PCHS, enthusiastic community volunteers, and dedicated veterans of the armed forces.

The new flag was raised for the first time on Monday, Dec. 11. The donors, who wish to remain anonymous, hope that all individuals who see the flag will smile as they are reminded of a fond memory of Gary, Charlie, or other veterans who are dear to their hearts.
