The Wetzel County Animal Shelter Supporters, Inc. held its first “Silent Auction” on Nov. 11. The event resulted in the WCASS’ highest-grossing auction so far. The auction ahd generous attendees, who had the opportunity to enjoy food, entertainment by Ben Tharp, and fun competition. A combination of the dinner, concessions, 50/50, Chinese auction, games, t-shirt sales, and auction items resulted in $8,000 gained. Rosy Cozart, spokesperson for the shelter, stated that the event was a learning experience.

“If we do it again, we know what to do and what not to do. We would love to make the auction a more social affair with more crowd participation. However, we were thrilled with all the great baskets and items we had to offer, and the generosity of the bidders!”

Cozart said the WCASS is currently preparing letters (to the editor) of thanks to the donors and volunteers, and anyone else who had involvement with the event.
