Magnolia FFA Captures State Land Judging, Homesite Title
Wetzel County was well represented July 12-15 at the 89th Annual West Virginia FFA State Convention. The event was held at Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, W.Va.
Magnolia High School captured the state title in Land Judging and Homesite. Team members are Devann Fox, Clayton Young, Garrett Fox, and Jarod Durig. This team will compete for a National Title next spring in Oklahoma.
Magnolia’s Devann Fox was elected to serve as the 2017-2018 Northwestern Region Vice President, and Fox also received First Place Proficiency Award for Specialty Animal Production.
Magnolia’s Dessie Kernan captured Third Place in Upperclassman Creed.
Also, Clayton Young, Joey Sidenstricker, and Drew Lemasters received their State FFA Degrees.
Witschey’s Market was also honored at the state convention, receiving the Distinguished Service Award for its support of area FFA chapters.
Hundred High School’s Annie Fox received first place state prepared speech and will compete at nationals in the fall. She also had a First Place Proficiency Award for her Supervised Agricultural Experience in Vegetable Production.
Hundred High School’s recipients of a state degree, at the 2017 state convention, are Hailey Eastham, Annie Fox, Miranda Gray, Sydney Hoyle, Charles Mathews, and Valerie Soles.
Several Pine Grove students also received state degrees at the convention. Those students are Alex Bassett, Cole Bates, Shannon Brown, Brooklynn McCaslin, Marisa Shannon, and Maggie Ueltschy.
