Hundred Independence Day Event Set
It’ll be a celebration for the Red, White, and Blue Saturday, July 1 as the Town of Hundred will hold its annual Independence Day Celebration.
Festivities kick off around 9 a.m. when parade entries will be accepted. Entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Those wanting to participate in the parade must check in. To place an entry in the parade, contact Kim Keast, Emily Jane Stewart (304-775-2332), or Charles “Chip” Goff at 304-775-2130.
At 11 a.m., the parade will start at Hundred’s park and end at Hundred High School. This year’s Grand Marshal is slated to be the Wetzel County Board of Education.
The Flag raising will be held at the Hundred State Police Barracks at 11:50 a.m. and will be conducted by American Legion Post #120 Legionnaires.
The HHS Hornet Marching Band will perform the National Anthem at noon, and the opening prayer will be administered by Mark Poe at 12:05 p.m.
The Independence Day celebration car show sill be at HHS’ parking lot, and those interested in participating should contact Rex Rush at 304-775-5163 or 304-871-0553. Per the parade, awards will be given out to the fire department with best appearing in uniform, Chief’s Choice, and furthest traveled.
The following events will be held in the afternoon. Times are approximate.
1 p.m., Virgil’s games; 2 p.m., Corn Hole Tournament ($2/person, bring your partner); and 2:30 p.m., Basketball Shooting Contest ($1 entry). To participate in the corn hole tournament, contact Djuanna Kennedy via Facebook.
There will also be a coin toss, softball toss, football toss, and dart game.
The ever-popular cow patty bingo will also be played! Contact Rick Kolat to buy a square.
Music performances will be held in the afternoon and evening by the following groups: KK Miller (Kayla Kuhn Miller), 1:15-2:15 p.m.; Jason Morgan, 2:30-3:30 p.m.; Sam Longwell, 3:45-4:45 p.m.; John and Melissa Hayes, 5-6 p.m.; Hundred Miles From Nowhere, 6:15 p.m. to fireworks.
50/50 drawings will be held throughout the day.

T-shirts will also be for sale while supplies last.
A rain date for these festivities is July 8.
