Relay for Life Set for Friday
Wetzel County’s annual Relay for Life will be held Friday, June 16 at the Magnolia High School track. This year’s theme “Mardi Gras” ensures that a good time will be held by all while keeping in mind the ever-constant battle, and hope, for a cure for cancer. Relay for Life celebrates those who have fought and prevailed against the evil disease, encourages those who are still fighting, and Relay for Life also honors those who have fought, but passed on.
According to the American Cancer Society, Relay is a team fundraising event where team members take turns walking around a track or designated path. “Each event is six to 24 hours in length, and each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps.”
“Cancer patients don’t stop because they’re tired, and for one night, neither do we.”
Each team has a themed campsite at the event and continues fundraising efforts by collecting donations for food, goods, games, and activities. This money will count towards their overall team fundraising goal.
