Magnolia Names Two Salutatorian, Three Valedictorian for Class of 2017

Magnolia High School announced Taylor Ludewig, Dylan Conner, and Thomas Ledergerber as valedictorians for its graduating class of 2017.

Salutatorians are Sean Philp and Kristen Massey.

Taylor Noel Ludewig of New Martinsville, West Virginia is the daughter of Chuck and Traci Ludewig. Taylor is on the softball team and captain of both the volleyball and girls’ basketball teams. She is in National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Art National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and serves as Senior Class Secretary. Taylor plans to attend West Virginia University to major in mechanical engineering.

Dylan Lee Conner is the son of Eric and Barbara Conner. He is a dedicated young man who remains committed to both his academics and his athletics. Dylan is a three-year letterman of football and baseball, and a captain on the baseball team. He is the class president, as well as the vice president of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Science National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. He is an active member in his community, being a volunteer youth league assistant football and softball coach and an Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of Troop 128 in New Martinsville. Dylan is a PROMISE Scholar, and plans to attend WVU in the fall to major in chemistry.

Thomas D. Ledergerber is the son of Stephen and Julie Ledergerber of New Martinsville. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society. He has participated in the FFA program at Magnolia and played golf during his junior year on the Magnolia Golf Team. Thomas is an avid fisherman and enjoys target shooting and hunting as well. He belongs to the Friendly Baptist Church where he volunteers with their outreach program. Thomas enjoys debating and playing selected video games.

He is a recipient of the WV PROMISE scholarship, the WV Higher Education Policy Commission Engineering, Science, and Technology Scholarship, and the Paul N. Elbin Presidential (Full Ride) Scholarship at West Liberty University where he plans to study Chemistry in the honors program.

Sean Philp is the son of Wesley and Claudia Philp. He is the Vice President of the Science National Honors Society, a section leader in the marching band, a member of Mu Alpha Theta, and a member of theater troupe #531.

Kristen Massey is a graduate from Magnolia High school. She is the daughter of Jeff and Renee Massey and the granddaughter of Karen Mason and the late Jerry Mason and John and Donna Massey. She also has one brother, Logan. Kristen is the Vice President of the class of 2017. She is the co-president of National Honor Society, president of Science National Honor Society, member of Mu Alpha Theta, Relay for Life, peer tutoring, the Drug Free Club, and the Superintendent Advisory Committee. Kristen is a 4-year letterman in track, cheerleading, and volleyball. She is a member of the 2016 State Track Championship Team and made history with her cheerleading team by winning the 2017 OVAC Cheerleading Competition. Kristen is a member of the First Baptist Church of Paden City where she is actively involved. She plans to attend West Virginia University to major in Accounting. Magnolia’s class of 2017 held commencement ceremonies Thursday, May 25.
