Lumberjacks Name Leaders

Three Lumberjacks were named to lead Valley High School’s 2017 graduating class. Rachel Baker and Alex Midcap were announced as valedictorians for the Lumberjacks’ Class of 2017. Rebeckah Barnette was named salutatorian.

Rachel Baker is the daughter of Keith and Pennie Baker.

She is a member of the National Honor Society.

She has lettered in volleyball for three years, lettered in basketball three years, lettered in track four years, and lettered in cheerleading one year.

Rachel plans to attend Fairmont State University, where she will study Elementary Education.

Alex Midcap is the son of Tina and Roger Midcap.

He has made the Principal’s List all four years of high school, has completed six college classes, and he has served as a member of the National Honor Society.

Alex lettered in football and basketball all four years as a Lumberjack. He made First Team OVAC and Mason-Dixon in football, and he made First Team Mason-Dixon in basketball.

Alex broke Valley’s school record of highest shooting percentage, and he broke one HIT Tournament record with the best free throw percentage. He also tied another HIT Tournament record for most threes in a game.

Alex will be attending Pierpont for a degree of Physical Therapy Assistance.

Rebeckah Barnette is the daughter of Jack and LeAnna Barnette.

Rebeckah has been in band for two years and track for all four years of high school.

While at Valley, Rebeckah was the student body president her junior year, and she was president of the FFA her senior year.

Rebeckah also participates in 4-H and is the Livestock Club reporter.

Rebeckah plans to go to WVNCC in the fall for Nursing. She wants to be a Nurse Practictioner.

While attending high school, Rebeckah attended WVNCC and obtained her Associate in Arts degree, with a concentration in Psychology.

Valley High School held its commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 26.
