Easter Season Music Camp Set For April 13-14
A special educational music camp will be held for children in grades second through eighth on April 13 and 14 at The Disciples Center for Human Wholeness, located on 515 Maple Avenue in New Martinsville. The camp will take place from 2-4 p.m. on Thursday and will resume on Friday, 9-11 a.m.
The camp is free of charge, and registration will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Snacks will be provided at the camp, and parents/custodians should make the volunteer staff aware of any health or food allergies at the time of registration.
Sean Maxwell, native of New Martinsville, will lead the music camp.
Maxwell is a graduate of Magnolia High School and is currently living in Linz, Austria where he studies music at the Anton Bruckner Private University for music, drama, and dance.
Maxwell has taken part in master classes with the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra Music in Munich, Germany with the brass of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from Amsterdam,
The Netherlands, the principal trumpet of the Munich Philharmonic, the principal trumpet of the Camerata in Salzburg, Austria with the American Brass Quintet, and twice with Vincent DiMartino, international trumpet soloist. Maxwell has worked as organist at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in New Martinsville and is active in churches in Linz, Steyr, Bad Zell and Windhaag bei Perg, Austria.
Maxwell’s plans for music camp students include special Austrian and German music, traditions, games, and dances, with a focus on Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. Numerous pieces of classical music will also be used that will tell the story, along with some education on some of the greatest composers of all time and their music during the Lenten and Easter seasons.
Maxwell will be sharing how other cultures celebrate the holiday.
