Bows, Hats Requested For ‘Fierce’ Fighter

By Staff | Jan 18, 2017

PADEN CITY – “And though she be but little, she is fierce” – Shakespeare

Sometimes it is really hard to understand why bad things happen to good people, especially innocent children. This brave, beautiful little girl is the daughter of one of Matt and Diane (DD) Kinnard’s first students from Cedarville, Matt now teaches art in Paden City and “DD” is the teacher at Little Lambs Preschool at New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

Charlotte was diagnosed with bilateral Wilm’s Tumors in June of 2015.

In November 2016, Matt and Stephanie Caraway received the news that Charlotte’s scans showed four growths in her kidneys and 2 and a 1/2 nodule on her right lung. Charlotte began nine months, to a year’s worth, of chemo in November.

On Dec. 30, 2016 Stephanie shared an update and picture, of Charlotte’s hair that had fallen out. She posted, “These are the moments that catch your breath… When normal is rudely interrupted by cancer… Her hair… My heart…”

On Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 the update on Fighting with Fierce Charlotte’s facebook page said, “Charlotte has asked us to cut her hair off a couple times. It must really have been bothering her. Today Daddy did it because Mommy couldn’t. Look at my darling girl! Same old #fiercecharlotte”

The same day Charlotte’s aunt sent out a simple question, ” Who would be on board with a hat/bow drive for Charolette.”

It was then that the Kinnards knew they wanted to turn their love for their students past and present into action. Together they are hoping to help bless beautiful Charlotte with soft hats and headbands.

Some of Mr. Kinnard’s students will be making hats and Mrs. Kinnard’s preschool will be collecting and making headbands for Charlotte.

The Kinnards are hoping to get the communities in Tyler and Wetzel Counties to join them in this project. There will be a drop off “basket of bows/hats” at the New Martinsville United Methodist Church and one at Paden City High School. The bows and hats can be store bought or homemade, as long as they are SOFT to touch and wear.

Donations will be collected until Feb. 1, 2017.

Do not hesitate to call Mrs. Kinnard at Little Lambs at 304-455-1422 if you have any questions.
