Wetzel County Couple Loses Home To Fire
The community is joining forces to assist fellow residents who tragically lost all of their belongings in a house fire Sunday evening.
Tom and JeanAnn Gump lost their Fluharty Run, New Martinsville home and all of its belongings, along with all of Tom’s business items for Gump Septic. Perhaps most devastating, the Gumps’ two beloved dogs – Scooby and Creed – perished in the fire.
The Gumps’ family and friends have taken action since the weekend fire. Monetary and gift card donations are currently being accepted at Mason’s Filling Station in Reader, Mason’s Depot in Pine Grove, Simon’s Market in Pine Grove, Norris Pharmacy in Pine Grove, and Fast Eddy’s in New Martinsville. Donations can also be mailed to 426 8 Mile Road, Reader, WV, 26167. A bank account has also been set up at WesBanco, under “Tom and JeanAnn Gump.”
Also, the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce is allowing items to be dropped off at its location on Main Street in New Martinsville. These items will be picked up and delivered to the Gumps.
A benefit for the Gumps will be held on Jan. 21, 7-11 p.m. at Robert C. Byrd center in Pine Grove. The event will include a silent auction, music and dance, 50/50 drawing, and other events. Area business owners are being asked to donate anything that they can. Barbie Wayne-Headley, Jessica Morris, Nicole Fortney, and Leah Briggs are planning the event, and those who are interested in helping are asked to reach out to one of the above-mentioned organizers, via Facebook, for additional information. The organizers of the benefit are working to get flyers out to local businesses and post offices with information.
Jason and Ashley Huggins are currently selling raffle tickets for a .22 caliber Henry Golden Boy gun. The name of the winner will be drawn at the Jan. 21 benefit. The winner does not need to be present to win the gun. However, the winner must be 18 years or older and will be subject to a background check at Alta’s Bait and Outdoor’s, in Paden City.
To purchase tickets, contact Jason or Ashley on Facebook. Tickets can be bought at Fast Eddy’s in New Martinsville, at Alta’s Bait and Outdoors in Paden City, and also from Nicole Fortney.
