NMPD Investigates Attack
New Martinsville Police Department Chief Tim Cecil was able to confirm that his department is investigating an attack that allegedly occurred behind New Martinsville’s Bob Evans on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Cecil said the incident occurred around 5:25 p.m.
Cecil reported that a man in a white minivan approached the female victim from behind and attacked her.
The man pushed the woman into her vehicle and asked her for her keys. However, the women was able to climb in the backseat of her vehicle and escape through the passenger side.
Cecil referenced a social media post the alleged victim had made. In this public post she stated that her attacker was a white, middle-aged man with a scruffy gray beard, wearing a gray hoodie and light-washed jeans. She said the man had started choking her and punching her in the head repeatedly.
After escaping, the woman ran into the back entrance of Bob Evans, where 911 was then dialed.
She said the attacker peeled out of the parking lot and sped through New Martinsville’s Amerihost parking lot.
Chief Cecil noted that NMPD is reviewing the surveillance of the man fleeing the parking lot. He also reported that the woman had gone to the hospital but has since been released.
