Mutt Strut Happens Oct. 29

By Staff | Oct 20, 2016

The Mutt Strut helps furry friends, at Wetzel County Animal Shelter and Olive Branch Animal Rescue, such as this one pictured.

The Wetzel County Animal Shelter Supporters, Inc. will be having its 14th, and last, Mutt Strut on Oct. 29. Rosy Cozart, of the shelter, explained that due to the shortage of volunteers, the shelter will no longer “be able to do the event as is.” Cozart said the shelter will have an annual fundraiser, “and we hope it is something that people will be able to attend and enjoy with their dogs.”

This year’s Mutt Strut also includes the Olive Branch Animal Rescue, to show that both entities do work together to help the animals of the community.

At this event there is no cover charge. Money is raised by humans getting “pledges” from friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and complete strangers, for them to strut around the 4-H Fairgrounds with their dog. The person collects this money prior to the walk and brings it the day of the walk!

Those wanting to help out, but are unable to participate in the event, are encouraged to mail their donations or drop them off at the shelter.

First and second place prizes are given to adults and children for the most money raised. First place prize is a Lenovo Tab 2 A10, and second place prize is a $100 gift certificate. First place prize for the “Under 18” category is a Lenovo Tab2 A8 16G, and second place is a $100 gift certificate to Walmart.

Activities and Registration start at 11 a.m. The stage contests begin at noon. These contests include Dog/Owner Look Alike and Costume Contest. Greg Goodfellow will provide MC/DJ services.

The actual stroll/walk around the fairgrounds (approximately one mile) will begin at 1 p.m.

Among the events offered will be the following: Bobbing for Bones, Poo Toss (not real poo), Katelin Shriver’s Lure Course, Agility Course, Pawdicures by Robin of Clip n’ Tails and Nikki of Paw Spa, a Photo Booth for instant printed pictures of you and your pet, a photographer doing candid shots, homemade doggie treats, door prizes, small silent auction, plenty of food and drinks, face painting and temporary tattoos, pet-related items for sale, and t-shirts.

This year there will also be a “Halloween Pet Photo” contest. Simply bring a favorite framed photo for People’s Choice voting! First, second, and third prizes will be awarded.
