Kendall Named Democrat Of The Year

By Staff | Sep 28, 2016

Pat Kendall has been named 2016 Outstanding Democrat of the Year for Wetzel County. She will be presented with the honor by members of the West Virginia Democratic Party in Charleston on Oct. 8 at the annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner Celebration.

Kendall resides in New Martinsville with her husband Frank. The couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She first joined the Wetzel County Democratic Women in 1982 after being recruited by past President Joyce Brown and Judy Hill. Brown reflected “Every time the Democratic Women have something going on, Pat is there. She supports local, district and state functions and works tirelessly for the Democratic Party.”

When accepting the nomination for the prestigious award, Kendall was asked what she appreciates most about the Democratic Party. “There are so many wonderful things to choose from but what I appreciate most is the 40 hour work week, workers’ rights and health care.” Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy are her two favorite Presidents and she recalls fondly living in Washington D.C. during the 1950’s while working at the National Bank of Washington. “I could see the White House lawn from the bank, located on Connecticut Avenue, and frequently I saw President Eisenhower chipping golf balls!”

Kendall’s future hopes include meeting Hillary Clinton and attending a National Convention as a Democratic Delegate. Immediate concerns are encouraging people to vote blue and helping candidates get elected. One of those candidates is Delegate Dave Pethtel who says of Kendall “Pat has been an outstanding Democrat for years. I appreciate everything she has done for myself and other Democrats.”

Kendall retired from both JC Penny’s and PPG, attends the First Baptist Church in New Martinsville and is a member of the Wetzel County Democratic Women and the Wetzel County Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She is an Elections Official serving as a poll worker and welcomes people to visit her at the Wetzel County Democratic Headquarters located at 271 Main Street in downtown New Martinsville throughout the November 8 General Election.
