Fifteen years have passed since the terrifying and tragic attacks of September 11, 2001.

So far, two local organizations have stepped forward to mark the occasions, pay tribute to the innocent lives lost that day, and thank and honor those who are still willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, Paden City Christian Church is observing the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks by honoring Tyler/Wetzel police and fire departments and their families. A service starts at 10:30 a.m., followed by a dinner at 12:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to RSVP at 304-337-8650.

That evening, at 7 p.m., a “9/11, We Will Never Forget – 15 Year Anniversary” observance will be held at Fireman’s Park in New Martinsville, located on the bank of the Ohio River behind American Legion Post #28.

Participating in the ceremony will be Magnolia High School band, Rev. Vic Hunter, Pastor Mike Shank, American Legion Post #28, Wetzel County EMS, New Martinsville Police Department, and New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department.

Attendees are encouraged to bring along a lawn chair. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the Lincoln Theater at 242 Main Street

Other organizations planning to hold ceremonies are encouraged to contact the Wetzel Chronicle by calling 304-455-3300 or by e-mailing editor@wetzelchronicle.com so that we may help to spread the word by posting the event to our website and Facebook page.
