The rain fell daily during last week’s Town & Country Days festivities; however, there was still plenty of fun to be had for fair-goers.

Thursday’s annual “Senior Day” saw the crowning of this this year’s Outstanding Senior Citizen, Danny Westfall – “The Bubble Man.”

Danny is known for spreading cheer throughout the community, whether it be through his bubblemaking talents or organizing wintertime ice skating at New Martinsville’s marina.

The always-humble Danny remained such, concerning his recognition.

“I am honored and thank those who deemed me worthy of such accolades,” he said. “My wife, Cathy, and I are just playing and letting a bunch of folks join us. Having so much fun is reward enough.”

The rain did cause turmoil for trackside action at the fair – the truck pulls, scheduled for Thursday night, were cancelled last minute due to an unexpected rain shower. However, the rough truck, motor cross, mud bog, drag races, and demolition derby events still drew crowds.

Fair festivities concluded Saturday night with the star-studded performance of Diamond Rio.
