Man Submerges Truck

It took several hours to retrieve this truck from the waters at New Martinsville’s marina on Harlan Drive.

New Martinsville first responders were contacted Monday to report to the city’s marina, on Harlan Drive, for the retrieval of a vehicle submerged in the water.

New Martinsville Police Department Chief Tim Cecil reported that a gentleman had been reversing his truck, to unload kayaks, and became momentarily distracted. The truck began to drift, and when the man reached to press the brakes, he hit the gas instead, causing the truck to go into the water. The man managed to climb out of his vehicle and swam to shore, where he notified rescue services.

Steve Yoho was the diver for the rescue team and helped Jackson Towing hook to the man’s Chevy, so the Chevy could be removed from the water. Workers were at the scene for several hours to assist with the removal of the vehicle.
