Quinn Pleads to Manslaughter

By Staff | Jul 20, 2016

A Paden City woman, formerly charged with murder, pleaded guilty Wednesday, July 20 to the lesser included offense of voluntary manslaughter.

Jessica Quinn, 36, of 114 South Third Avenue, Paden City, faces a 15 year determinate sentence for the manslaughter charge, as well as a five year determinate sentence on the charge of wanton endangerment, which she also pleaded to.

Wetzel County Prosecuting Attorney Timothy Haught said the state is recommending that Quinn be sentenced to the maximum on both charges, consecutively, for an effective sentence of 20 years. Prosecutor Haught noted that the victim’s parents agreed to the plea “as opposed to risking a jury trial.”

Quinn’s sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 27.

Quinn’s plea comes less than week before her case was set to go to trial, on July 25. The plea also comes just a little more than a year after the defendant allegedly shot and killed Kevin Clark Thompson, Jr., on June 8, 2015.
