By Staff | Jun 15, 2016

The Wetzel County Board of Education will interview three applicants on Tuesday, June 21 for the position of superintendent.

Board President Mike Blair announced this decision at a special board meeting held Tuesday, June 14. The board retired to executive session for more than an hour to review applications. After returning to open session, Blair announced that the following individuals would be interviewed: Ora “Rick” Coffman, Ed Toman, and Current Assistant Superintendent Jay Yeager. Yeager is currently set to retire, effective June 30.

Coffman is currently superintendent of Doddridge County Schools, while Toman is superintendent of Ritchie County Schools. Blair noted at the meeting that Toman is under contract.

The interview process will begin on June 21 at 6:30 p.m., with interviews scheduled for 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. Blair did confirm that the interviews would be open.

Blair confirmed to the Chronicle that the superintendent position is an interim position.

The search for a new superintendent comes after the board decided on May 26 to buyout the contract of Superintendent Leatha Williams.

Williams’ employment will last through June 30.
