By Staff | Apr 13, 2016

Lauren Matthews has recently been named editor of the Wetzel Chronicle. Matthews has been working at the Chronicle as a reporter for more than four years.

She graduated cum laude in 2011 from West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies and minors in Business Administration, Professional Writing and Editing, and Communication Studies.

Matthews has lived in the area her whole life, being born and raised in Alma, West Virginia and graduating from Tyler Consolidated High School.

“I fully believe in the Chronicle’s motto – Community Service, Our Guiding Principle,” Matthews said of her new role. “This newspaper belongs to the citizens of Wetzel County, and it is my sincere goal to always keep them in mind each and every week.”

Brian Clutter, publisher of the Wetzel Chronicle, said he is pleased to see Matthews grow into this position.

“Lauren is very conscientious, and truly cares about her community,” Clutter said. “She is a talented reporter, and her skills and experience will serve her well as editor.”
