By Staff | Apr 6, 2016

A peaceful night fishing with buddies turned ugly Thursday, March 31 when three local men were randomly attacked at New Martinsville Hydro.

According to New Martinsville Police Department, the men were fishing off of New Martinsville’s Hydro’s round pier at about 2 a.m., March 31. They were then approached by three other gentlemen, who appeared to be intoxicated. The six men conversed with one another for a while.

Once the conversation had concluded and the three fishermen had their backs turned, they were then attacked by the men who had approached them.

The three fishermen did sustain injuries but no one was seriously injured.

Chief Tim Cecil reports that his officers have located two of the three perpetrators.

Cecil added that he believes the incident was isolated, but his officers have been patrolling the Hydro more often, especially when people are fishing in the area.

Those with any information regarding Thursday’s incident are encouraged to call the NMPD at 304-455-9100.
