By Staff | Feb 17, 2016

Several matters have been approved at recent board meetings.

Notably, several personnel matters were not approved at the Monday, Feb. 1 meeting after a motion for such failed.

Prior to personnel matters, Board President Mike Blair had recused himself from the matters and left the room. Carolyn Gatian, the board’s vice-president, then proceeded over the business.

Board Member Joshua Balcerek made the motion to approve the personnal matters. However, the motion was not seconded. At the conclusion of the board meeting, Gatian made the motion to modify the personnel matters so that the following matters could be approved

At the Monday, Feb. 15 meeting of the board, all of the above-mentioned items that were not approved at the Feb. 1 meeting were approved after an approximate half-hour executive session. Blair recused himself from personnel matters; however, approval failed due to lack of a second motion. Superintendent Leatha Williams requested that the board move to an executive session.

After the board reconvened, all personnel matters were approved. Board Member Linda Kirk did state that her “qualms with hiring a mentor this late is just that…” However, Kirk noted that law states that the board has to have one.
