Man Charged In Fatal Accident
NEW MARTINSVILLE – Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Mike Koontz has reported that an individual has recently been charged with driving under the influence, with death, in a fatal vehicle accident that occurred in November 2015.
The accident occurred at 12:07 p.m. Nov. 27, on Route 20 near Porters Falls. According to the police report, a tanker truck, operated by Calvin Eaton of Wellsburg, went off the right side of the road for an unknown reason.
The vehicle then came back onto the right side of the road but then crossed the center of the road, striking a 2014 Jeep Wrangler coming from the opposite direction.
The Jeep was struck head-on and proceeded to roll over an unknown amount of times, eventually catching fire while the driver was trapped inside.
The driver, who was approximately 61 years in age, died as a result of the accident.
Eaten, who allegedly on the job at the time of the accident, was found to have a blood alcohol content over the legal limit.
The investigation of the accident is being conducted by Wetzel County Deputy Mike Neff.
