Subway Allegedly Robbed at Knife Point

By Staff | Nov 19, 2015

Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly robbed a Subway restaurant at knife point in New Martinsville.

Police Chief Tim Cecil said the robbery happened at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the Subway on W.Va. 2. He said no one was hurt.

Ashley Smith, a Subway clerk, said a man came into the restaurant and approached the front counter. Another clerk asked the man, “Can I get you a sub?” Smith said.

Smith said the man answered, “No, but you can get me this,” before he handed the clerk a handwritten letter that read, “Give me the money or I’ll hurt you.”

He was holding a knife, she said. Police are not releasing the name of the clerk who was approached by the robber.

Smith said the clerk told the robber that she was unable to open the cash register unless he purchased something. Smith said the man threatened the clerk again, so that clerk opened the cash register.

Smith said the man reached into the register and took all the cash, but not the change which he threw at the clerk before he left the front counter and fled. Cecil did not say how much money was stolen.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact police at 304-455-9100.
