New Martinsville Police Seek Robbery Suspect
NEW MARTINSVILLE – Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly robbed a Subway restaurant at knife point Wednesday.
New Martinsville Police Chief Tim Cecil said the robbery happened at about 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Subway on W.Va. 2. He said no one was hurt in the robbery.
Ashley Smith, a Subway clerk, said a man came into the restaurant and approached the front counter. Another clerk asked the man, “Can I get you a sub?” Smith said.
Smith said the man answered, “No, but you can get me this” before he handed the clerk a handwritten letter that read, “Give me the money or I’ll hurt you.”
He was holding a knife, she said.
Police are not releasing the name of the clerk who was approached by the robber.
Smith said the clerk told the robber that she was unable to open the cash register unless he purchased something. Smith said the man threatened the clerk again, so that clerk opened the cash register.
Smith said the man reached into the register and took all the cash, but not the change – which he threw at the clerk before he left the front counter.
Cecil said the man stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the restaurant.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact police at 304-455-9100.
