Christmas Lights To Go Up Soon

The New Martinsville Council met to discuss several different issues inside the community.

In the department head meeting that was prior to council, several updates were presented.

David White of the electric department notified council that for the next two to three weeks trees will be cut and hauled away. Christmas lights are currently being repaired and will go up next week.

Police Chief Tim Cecil stated that the New Martinsville Police Department started their day with a drug arrest after the assistance of Monroe County Sheriff’s K-9. The arrest resulted to multiple drug found and felony charges.

The New Martinsville Police Department recently received the platinum award for traffic citations. This is the seventh year in a row that the police department has won this award. Cecil also stated that he has four potential hires if they can pass the polygraph test.

Larry Couch of the fire department reported that they answered 25 calls this month. Couch also stated that there has been seven false alarms. He said that do to an ordinance, that the fire department can send an invoice to these businesses that have false alarms and charge them. Couch can also file a criminal complaint with the police department.
