Local Schools Announce 2015 Homecoming Court
Magnolia High School will celebrate its homecoming events the weekend of Sept. 18-19. Festivities start Friday with the Homecoming Parade of the senior queen candidates, the underclass princesses, their escorts, cheerleaders, and the band, which will leave from the front of the school at 6:15 p.m. The parade route follows Maple Avenue to North Street to Main Street to the football field. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned by the principal, Mrs. Kathi Schmalz, during halftime events at the football game versus River High School. The weekend’s events will conclude with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, Sept. 19. The five queen candidates, who are all seniors, and the underclass princesses were selected by their classmates, while the queen is chosen by the entire student body.
Rachel Arbogast is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark C. Arbogast and the granddaughter of Tom Rosier and the late Peggy Rosier of Jamestown, New York. She participates in Relay for Life and runs on both the varsity cross country and track teams. A member of National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, and Art National Honor Society, she performs with the marching band’s Color Guard. Rachel is very active in the theater program and has had a part in the play every year in high school. She plans to attend West Virginia University and major in exercise physiology. Alex Anderson, the son of Nancy Roberts and Raymond Young is her escort. Anderson a member of late year’s state champion basketball team, plays on the soccer team. He is undecided about his future plans.
Savanna Bates is the daughter of Teena and Chris Bates and the granddaughter of Jean Coen and the late Joe Coen of Pine Grove, the late Stanley and Karen Bates of Folsom, and the great-granddaughter of George Anderson and the late Katherine Anderson of Folsom.
Savanna is a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, FFA, and participates in Relay for Life. She is a cheerleader, runs on the track team and serves as a peer tutor. A member of the Drug Free Club and Service club, she has volunteered at the Wetzel County Animal Shelter and rang the bells for the Salvation Army. Savanna’s future plans include attending WVU and majoring in physical therapy. She will be escorted by Andy Anderson, the son of Nancy Roberts and Raymond Young. Andy attends MOVTI and plans to become a pipeliner after graduation.
Grace Berisford is the daughter of Jack and Linda Berisford of New Martinsville. Her grandparents, who formerly lived in Paden City, are Jerry Cook of Tennessee and Laura Meadows of Florida. Grace is active in Young Life and plays on the varsity volleyball and basketball teams. She is a member of TSA and plans to attend college next year. Grace’s escort is Shane Mason, son of Dan and Tracy Mason. Shane plays on the golf team and plans to study audiology at West Virginia University.
Evan Estep, the daughter of Steve and DeeDee Estep, is a member of the varsity volleyball team. Her grandparents are Mike and Joan Estep and Nina and Jim Winters. Evan has been named as a Rotary Student of the Month and is a Principal’s List Honor Roll student. She serves as a peer tutor and has worked at Barista’s cafe for the past two years. She plans to go into Occupational Therapy at WVU next year. Dylan Jackson, the son of Butch and the late Jamie Jackson, is her escort. Dylan, a member of Magnolia’s state champion basketball team, plays on the soccer team. His future plans include majoring in business.
Anna Gibb is the daughter of Bev and Bob Gibb of Paden City. Linda Gibb of The Villages, Florida is her grandmother. Anna attends the Limestone United Methodist Church. She is a Rotary Student of the Month, an officer of the National Honor Society and a member of Mu Alpha Theta math honorary and Science National Honor Society. Anna plays on the varsity soccer and basketball teams and serves as a peer tutor. She plans to attend West Virginia University to study biomedical engineering. Anna’s escort is Aaron Scheibelhood, the son of Mark Scheibelhood. Aaron, also a member of National Honor Society, plans to attend WVU and major in electrical engineering.
Junior princess Brooke Hostetler is the daughter of Bryan Hostetler and Theresa Renshaw and Chad Todd. She is the granddaughter of Cynthia Hostetler and Alfred and Kandas Renshaw of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Brooke is a three-year member of the National Art Honor Society and plays on the Magnolia softball team. She was chosen to represent Magnolia at the HOBY Leadership Conference on both the state of West Virginia and the national levels and has participate in the Ibelieve leadership program for two years. Brooke’s escort is Clay Adams, who is a member of the wrestling squad. He is the son of Topsy and Bob Adams.
Alex Berger is the sophomore princess. She is the daughter of Kim Whiteman and Rick Berger and is the granddaughter of Janet Berger and the late Eugene Berger and Patricia Steele and the late Ed Whiteman. She is a member of the volleyball and softball teams. Jack Booth is Alex’s escort. Booth is the son of Lisa and Charles Booth and plays on the soccer team.
Freshmen princess Kelsey Fisher is the daughter of Kenny and Lori Fisher. Her grandparents are Brenda Fisher and the late Bill Fisher and Jeannie and Brent Hoke of Charleston. Kelsey attends the New Martinsville United Methodist Church and is a member of the soccer and track teams and the Drug Free Club. She is active with the theater and choir programs at Magnolia and has performed in ArtsLink productions. Kelsey will be escorted by Ethan Herrick, the son of Tabitha and Rock Herrick. Ethan is a member of the soccer team.

Katherine Henderson is the daughter of Linda and Howard Henderson. Katherine participates in track, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, dance, band, and FFA. She plans to go to WVU to become a fitness trainer.
Andrew Zedell is the son of Ruth and Scott Zedell. He plays football and basketball. Andrew likes to hang out with friends after school. He wants to be an electrical engineer.
Makayla Postlethwaite is the daughter of Chris and Bobby Postlethwaite. Makayla participates in volleyball and softball. She plans to attend college and major in dental hygiene.
Andy Howell is the son of Deana and Billy Joe Howell Jr. He plays football and likes to go hunting and fishing. Andy plans to attend college and major in writing to become a novelist.
Valerie Soles is the daughter of Jeanette and James Soles. She is involved in the FFA, chorus, chaplain of the FFA, FFA parliamentary team, FFA livestock judging, and is the vice-president of the Junior Class. Valerie plays volleyball and basketball. She enjoys playing piano, raising FFA pigs. Valerie plans to attend Fairmont State University and majoring in physical science.
Tyler Norris is the son of April and Gerard Norris. He is involved in football, basketball, and young life. Tyler enjoys riding four wheelers, hunting, fishing and swimming. His goal after high school is to be a dive welder.
Kaitlyn Kuhn is the daughter of Tamra and Shaun Kuhn. Kaitlyn plays volleyball, cheerleading, track and is involved in FFA, Strength and Conditioning Club.
She enjoys working, watching tv, raising hogs, fishing, and mudding/ridge running. Kaitlyn plans on becoming a nuclear medical technician.
Ashley Miller is the daughter of Amy and Charlie Miller. Ashley plays basketball, track, cheerleading. She is involved in the National Honors Society, Strength and Conditioning club, hunting and fishing club, and FFA. Ashley likes to fish, paint, work out, and spending time with her boyfriend Isaac. Ashley plans on attending college and becoming a pediatric nurse.
Sammi Opyoke is the daughter of Amber Amos and Louis Opyoke. Sammi is involved in track, Young Life, Robotics Club, and Art Club. She enjoys photography, reading, and painting. Sammi plans on starting her own photography business after high school.
Josie Phillips is the daughter of Kelly and Terry Phillips. Josie plays volleyball, basketball, and cheerleading. Josie is the president of strength and conditioning club and was the prom princess. She is involved in pep club, hunting and fishing club, cooking club, chorus, and National Honors Society. Josie enjoys playing sports, spending time with her boyfriend, Steven, riding, hunting, and hiking. She plans on attending college and becoming a dental assistant and phlebotomist.
Mady Wheeler is the daughter of Diana Wheeler. Mady plays volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and softball. She is a FFA officer, and is involved in Young Life. On her free time she likes to play the guitar and sing. Mady plans on attending college to become a music teacher.
Dustin Adams is the son of Peggy and Kenneth Adams. Dustin is involved in FFA, Young Life, Robotics Club, Hunting and Fishing Club, and Art Club. Dustin enjoys target shooting, wood working, and working on vehicles. Dustin plans on becoming a CNC programmer or an operator.
Derek Crihfield is the son of Anya and Kyle Crihfield. He plays basketball, baseball. He is involved in the FFA and tractor driving competition. Derek enjoys raising hogs, playing sports, riding four wheelers, working on his jeep, and building objects. He plans on becoming a carpenter working on houses.
Holden Moore is the son of Janet and Randy Moore. Holden participates in FFA, basketball, track, Quiz Bowl, Outdoor Odyssey Club, and taping the football games. He like to hang out with friends, spending time with his family, and driving around. Holden plans on attending college or marrying a Kardashian so he never has to work, whichever comes first.
Jordan Tustin is the son of Juanita Hendrick an Jimmy Tustin. Jordan plays baseball and involve in FFA. He enjoys ridge running, working, hunting, fishing, cutting trees, weed eating, and working on antique trucks and cars. Jordan plans on becoming an operator on the pipeline or a welder on the pipeline.
