Chamber Planning For New Activities

The Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce is making great strides in its community and the surrounding areas.

Newly promoted Executive Director Sharon Thomas has hit the ground running is working to make introduce new programs and activities. Along with the new activities, the chamber will bring back many of favorites.

The chamber office is selling Chamber Community Cash. This program is designed to help stimulate local shopping with area businesses. Anyone can purchase a Chamber Community Cash gift certificate for $25. Participating businesses will be listed on the back of the certificate, which can be used like cash at any participating locations.

Businesses will submit the certificates to chamber for reimbursement. The chamber will retain five percent, which will be used towards the Pay It Forward Grant Opportunity. The participating businesses include: A-1 Automotive Services, LLC, ArtLinks, Inc., Azteca Mexican Restaurant, BalloonOvations, Bon Bon’s Cafe, Flower Basket and Gift Shop, Hatfield Graphics, Holiday Inn Express – New Martinsville, Kings Corner, Marv’s Place, Olive Branch Shops, Plaza Latina, Prodigy Wellness Center, Reliable Supply, Riggenbach Tile and Carpet, S&S Diamonds and Fine Jewerly, Shooters Salon and Catering, Tammy’s Country Crafts, The Arcane Game Store, The Orchard B&B and Gift Shop, The Supply Closet, The Tin Ceiling and Flower Shop, Veterans Bluegrass Association, Wayside Furniture, WhiteCaps Creative Group, Witschey’s and Your Second Hand Stores.

The chamber will hold its 16th annual Chili Fest on Oct. 31 from noon to 4 p.m. on Main Street in New Martinsville. While sampling chili, there will be a kids costume parade, face painting, pumpkin rolling contest, cruisers unlimited car show, box car race, corn hole tournament and a hot pepper eating contest.

Just days before, the Chili Fest Pageant on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Lincoln Threatre, on Main Street in New Martinsville. Registration deadline postmarked Oct. 7. The age categories include: Mrs. (18+ and married), Ms. (22+ and single), Queen (16-21), Teen (12-15), Junior Miss (7-11), Little Miss (3-6), and Little Mister (3-9). The chamber will hold an innuagral Christmas Decorating Contest. The contest will include residential and commerical decorations. Since it is the first year, the residential contest will just include New Martinsville area. The commercial decorations include Wetzel, Tyler and Monroe County.

The residential subcategories include religious, nostalgic, simply elegant and Christmas vacation. All entries are due by Nov. 20. All judging will take place from Dec. 1-4 from 5 to 9 p.m. The winner will be announced on Dec. 5 following the Christmas Parade at the Christmas Tree Lighting. Please send a complete form and an entry fee of $5. The parade will begin at 6 p.m.
